Thank you for your interest!
I started in the behavioral health and wellness field in 2000. Over the years, I’ve served as a Spanish/Spanglish speaking counselor, case manager, and therapist in a few settings - residential facilities, clinics, and schools. I’ve supported folks of all ages, navigating various factors - healing from trauma, managing chronic illness, understanding the power and range of emotions, exploring relational dynamics, reconnecting with self - with the knowing that the systems that we are a part of directly inform our thought, behavior, and more importantly how they can often limit our internal capacity and strengths. It was during my direct-service work as a school-based therapist, working with Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color, that I began looking much more closely at the systems that are created to support our wellness and healing.
The shift to include systems work. The work for me is at the intersection - one must regularly inform the other, with intentional responsiveness and consistent centering of folks who are receiving services AND those that are providing the service. For individuals and communities, especially those furthest from opportunity, to receive services that are equitable and responsive to real self/community-identified needs, the system from which they are supported must do so with genuine integrity.
As a Queer Chicanx practitioner, I center my work to serve those furthest from opportunity. I believe in our innate capacity towards expansion and healing - individually and collectively - es nuestro derecho sentir alegría y amor! It is our right to feel joy and love!
Whether supporting a system, or an individual, I engage from a relational and systems-based practice with a trauma-informed and strength-based approach. In therapy, I hope to bring awareness to how and where the body and mind stores experiences and emotions, and how then to engage those spaces within us with gentle curiosity and an openness to new information that could support healing and restoration. Similarly, I also believe in exploring the heightened experiences that occur based on our identity and positionality, especially for those that journey at the intersections.
In addition to my therapy/clinical training, I actively engage my yoga teacher training as well, especially to further understand the connectedness of the mind, body, and heart. While I don't currently facilitate yoga asana/movement classes, I incorporate flow, embodiment, and mindfulness across all my work.
I look forward to connecting with you and hopefully supporting in facilitating a part of your journey!
